Today’s Snooker Betting News:
Following a first round littered with shock results predicting the outcome of the second round matches could be a difficult proposition. However, having had the first round to blow away any cobwebs the big guns still in the tournament – and there are plenty of them – can now begin to flex their snooker muscles.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and John Higgins all managed to avoid slipping up in the first round and are the quartet of players who top the World Snooker Championship betting markets after the first week of play.
Snooker Betting
All attentions in the world of snooker are now firmly focussed on Sheffield and the upcoming World Championships. It has been a far from vintage year for John Higgins but the defending champion still goes to The Crucible as one of the snooker betting favourites for the title as he bids to be crowned champion of the world for the fifth time in his career.
The man at the head of that market, however, is last year’s beaten finalist Judd Trump. The youngster has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, winning the UK Championships title earlier in the season and climbing up the rankings to number three in the world.
The man who tops those rankings, Mark Selby, is also quoted towards the fore of the betting at odds of around 8/1. Ronnie O’Sullivan is also, as ever, a fancied runner and is generally the second-favourite with most bookmakers. The Rocket snuck into the top 16 of the world rankings at the decisive juncture in this season by winning the German Masters and the semi-final of the subsequent Welsh Open, but has since been struck down with a bout of glandular fever that kept him out of action for a few weeks.
World Championship Snooker Betting
Such is the competitiveness of world snooker at present that there is no clear cut favourite in the World Championship Betting for this season. Bookmakers have no fewer than five players available at single-figure odds in their winners markets, with another five available to back at odds of less than 20/1.
Judd Trump leads the way and is closely followed by Ronnie O’Sullivan. World number one Mark Selby, defending champion John Higgins and former champion Neil Robertson are all around the 8/1 mark. Ding Junhui, Mark Allen, Shaun Muprhy, Mark Williams and Stephen Maguire can be backed at odds of between 10/1 and 20/1 while the in-form Stephen Lee and Crucible specialist Graeme Dott aren’t to be discounted at 33/1.
